When you haven't got the words...

For B.
REMEMBER me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad

Christina Rossetti (1830-1894)

  2. Carrie,

I hadn't heard of this poet before and so I looked her up. She had a very interesting life. I was amazed that she started writing poetry at 7-years-old and evidently wrote up until her death.

Thanks for sharing this poem. Also, the picture below it is stunning. I love the color red and so this picture just jumps out at me:~)

p.s. I must admit, however, that I disagree with the last lines of this beautiful poem. I would much rather remember, even if meant sadness than forget and smile. Just my two cents:~)
