Evening delight at the Lottie

Yesterday I woke up with the desire to go to the allotment, on my own, to cut the grass. Menta?!! But it is true. Sadly it was raining, all day off and on and I had other work on my hands anyway so I didn't get there until evening time. It was better after all to go later as it dried up, warmed up, Andrew was home and Maggie had rested all day and felt rather energetic.

We drove over, lazy I know but Andrew was exhausted compared to my 'must go, must work' attitude. Plus he had been the night before and got a harvest gathered so it hadn't been as long for him.

Maggie was naturally lifted out of the car (remember her bad leg) and then bounded off into the extremely long grass and bounced along running a full speed. I swear that dog is my happiness.

Anyway, I took a few photos and thought it would be nice to share them.
Top left - the view from the car, holy poo, they said it was going to be looked after, that grass is deadly.
Top right - keeping on top of the grass down by our own plot - I cut back even more after this photo.
Bottom - the plot, 24a - aahhhhhh.

Top left - SWEETCORN doing really well
Bottom left - COURGETTES are in flower, we only have 2, that's all we will need ;)
Right - Pentland Javelin earlies out, LEEKS in :)

Sunflower backlit by the setting sun, ironically. I thought they always faced the sun? Maybe this guy is getting ready for the morning

Love and hugs

  1. The sunflower picture is stunning! I'm so glad you getting out the lottie. I liked this about Maggie, "I swear that dog is my happiness." I feel the same way about my cat who is right now resting on the couch in my office with this goofy look on her face, which makes me smile.

Also, I love the birds you are creating and displaying on Etsy. They are so cute and colorful. I'm going to stop by after this comment and see them even BIGGER:~)

    1. Thank you Sara. Animals are the best, maybe because they understand our emotions but don't ask questions...I think we would feel differently about our pets if they could talk, haha. I am so pleased you like my birds, they are very dear to me and take a long time to make with my double vision problems; each one is a testament to my fighting nature.
      Hugs!!

  2. It's looking lovely down at the allotment. Well done on only planting two courgettes, you're right, it is all you'll need. I always end up with too many. I lifted some potatoes today as well, they're such a treat at this time of year. Glad you had a good visit to the plot Carrie. CJ xx

    1. In the past we made the mistake of planting lots but my goodness they aren't half prolific! And every easy to get sick off. It's such a wonderful feeling to share our bounty isn't it!
      Hugs to you xx

  3. Carrie girl these are lovely photos .. makes it look magical in fact ... do you have a Harry Potter hiding in your garden under a veggie some where ? haha
I too thought sunflowers always faced the sun ... now what is going on ?
That is so nice to read with you having such a strong desire to go to the lottie and breath in that fresh air ... good for Maggie, she is feeling a wee bit better now isn't she? LOL
    Take care sweetie !

    1. Nope it's not magic sadly but 'muggle' hard graft and sore hands :) haha. Maggie is coping really well with her back leg damage and is still a feisty pup. We're going for a wee walk soon!
      Love ya xx

    1. Thanks Flighty. You know your stuff Sir, I defer to you knowledge and confess I didn't know all sunflowers didn't look to the sun. xxx

  5. Your allotments look so neat, compared to my little weedy thing! I have finally moved to England, so I can work on my garden as much as I want to... It's pretty great, but I will definitely not get anywhere near your gorgeous produce this year :) I'm in Woking, where exactly are you? :)

    1. Yay!! You've moved here (for good?) You'll get on top of those weeds in no time but I will say it really helps to have a partner. It's taken us many years to get ours like this so don't give yourself a hard time and remember the patches you don't see - they're messy!
I'm in N.Ireland just outside Belfast xx

  6. Oh, happy, happy, you feel like going to the lottie and I feel like going out in my garden :-) Love your pictures...everything looks so lush and healthy. Looking at your pictures I wished I'd planted sweet corn this year. I'll need to find space next year :-). Two courgettes may be more than you need (we call them zucchini). I remember my dad planing several of them one year and I've not been really fond of them since then :-)

    1. Oh no, you didn' plant sweetcorn!! I feel your pain. You must have it on top of your list for next year! Courgettes are mad, they just keep giving but this year I am trying to get back into baking and courgette cake is delicious. Plus I have a friend who is an amazing cook - so some will go to him. xxx

  8. It's a good thing you don't have snakes where you live, right? That long grass would be a bit of a concern otherwise. Beautiful pictures as always, Carrie. (More of Maggie next time please!) :P

  9. I thought that they faced the sun too - maybe as the sun went down the flower was frantically spinning round trying to find it.

I love to have visitors but LOVE it even more when they leave a little nugget of happiness behind in the form of a comment. I thank you for taking the time to send a little joy my way xx
